Bearded Dragon Leash Equals A Content Lizard
Having a bearded dragon leash may not seem like something you'd need if it's your first time having such a pet. However, as the following article will reveal it's definitely an accessory you will need.
Bearded dragons are native lizards of Australia and its hot and sunny climate and spend a great deal of there time basking in the sun they do this for a variety of reasons. Because they are cold blooded creatures from arid woodland and desert environments they need to keep there bodies at certain temperatures.
They also need a great deal of UV rays to remain healthy, we can help a pet beardie by installing special black light which produce UVB which is necessary for the beardie to make vitamin D3, Vitamin D3 is essential as the body needs it to absorb and use calcium. In addition to creating strong bones calcium is also very important for muscle function.
Artificial light is great, but it is no substitute for natural sunlight which is where the bearded dragon leash comes in handy. Obviously we can't just let our pet beardie out into the yard like we do with our dogs,or take it for a run round the park and hope it comes back when called!
Nor can we leave it unattended at any point as it will be vulnerable to predators.
So one solution is the bearded dragon leash, these handy lizard leashes are a safe way to enjoy the outside with your beardie and for him to get some much needed UV rays, make sure you buy a leash that has specifically been designed for your lizard. There are many pages on the internet explaining how to make your own bearded dragon leash, which I would advise you ignore and spend a little cash on a safe and well designed leash.
In general most dragons are not likely to go for a walk around the block along side the family dog but some will walk a little, whilst the majority of beardies are content to bask in the sun like they would in the wild.
Given some natural sunlight you should notice your bearded dragon will look more healthy and you could find he has more energy. An important thing to remember when taking your dragon outside is the temperature has to be warm enough (above 70 degrees) or your beardie will be too cold!
Always remember using a bearded dragon leash that you are responsible for your pet at all times and lizards are wild creature and when scared will react like they would in the wild, so if you see any possible dangers remove your beardie to a safe place rather than letting him become agitated.
